We have taken student feedback related to required moves from semester to semester seriously and have developed a summer assignment process designed to minimize the disruptions caused by multiple moves.

How do I Select a Room?

If You Have a Spring Assignment in an Open Building

If your Spring assignment is in a building that is designated open for the summer and you have paid the deposit prior to the deadline, we will assign you to that space for the summer semester before the start of Summer I Placement. Additionally, you may be able to pull a friend into any vacancies in your room during the Pull-in Selection Process.

Once you receive confirmation of your assignment, to view the vacancies in your room, please review your roommate information for the summer on Housing Online to see who is booked to your apartment/suite.

Pull-in

The pull-in process is only open to students who were automatically assigned into their current Spring bedspace for Summer I which also have vacancies in their room/apartment/suite. The student who is already booked in the room will be the student who “pulls-in” the other roommates using the other students’ NUID and Roommate Group Pin. Only students who are not already assigned will be eligible to be pulled in.

Please note: If you have a compelling reason why your Summer I assignment is not appropriate, you may contact us (housing@northeastern.edu). Moves will be very limited and reviewed on a case by case basis.

If You do not Have a Spring Assignment in an Open Building

For Summer I 2024, the following options are available for selection for students who are coming from off campus or whose Spring assignment is in a summer closed building:

Pull-in

If you would like to move in with a friend who will have a vacancy within their current apartment (in a building that will be open over the summer sessions), your friend can take part in the “Pull-in” Selection day. You will need to provide your NUID and Roommate Group PIN to the person pulling you into their apartment.

Housing Selection

If you would like to select a room/apartment from the vacancies, take part in either Group Selection (Fill an Apartment) or General Selection.

Summer I Selection Schedule

Housing Assignment letters for Summer I semester will be emailed in April.

If it is After Placement

Housing is typically still available even after Summer I placement after selection.  Usually at this time there are very limited types of apartments, no singles. If you are interested, Please email housing@northeastern.edu with your name and NUID number to inquire before you pay your deposit. Please note that once you pay the deposit you will be held to the cancellation schedule and fees.

What Will My Choices Be?

Because there are fewer students in university housing for the summer, not every building remains open. If your Spring building will be open for summer, and you have applied and paid your summer deposits, you will automatically be placed into that space. If your building is not open, you will participate in the Summer I Placement Process.

What if I Am Going on a Dialogue Summer I?

If your Dialogue has a Boston based component, and you are a Spring 2024 resident, consolidation housing is for you! Eligible students will receive information from GEO and Housing.

What are the Room Rates?

Summer room rates are typically half of a full semester for each summer term, so a full summer would be the same as one full semester. Information on room rates can be found here.

Air Conditioners

For buildings that do not have central air (starred in the list above), air conditioners will be available to rent at a One Summer Semester (half summer) or full summer rate, after the start of the semester. Please note, not every room in buildings without central air are eligible for air conditioner units, and Hastings Hall both does not have central air and is NOT AC eligible

A request form will be available in May on Housing Online under Forms/Requests and “Summer AC Request”. Please fill out the form to determine eligibility. Once your request form has been approved, you will be able to pay the air conditioner fee on your NUpay.
