Incoming First Years
Those first-year students in Oakland, live in one of our popular Living Learning Communities (LLCs), themed housing environments that connect students of similar academic and personal interests. LLCs are a great way to enrich your academic experience outside the classroom and to form long-lasting bonds with other students who share the same values and enjoy the same activities.
Applying for First Year Housing
Once you have set up your paid your enrollment deposit (which includes the housing deposit) and claimed your Northeastern Student Account, you will be able to fill out the Housing Application on your Application Status Check, under Housing Online. It can take 24-48 hours from when you pay your deposit to have access to Housing Online. As long as you have paid the enrollment deposit by May 1, 2026 you will be able to fill out the housing application. Housing Applications are due by May 7, 2026 and can be edited until that date. As a required student, if you do not complete the housing application, or are approved to live off campus through the Residency Waiver Process, you will be assigned randomly. Assignment are released for students over the summer to their Northeastern emails.
Assignments for first year students are done in enrollment deposit date order.

What will my choices be?
It is anticipated that second year students returning to Oakland will reside in the apartment style residence halls for Fall 2026 and Spring 2027. Specific building(s) will be announced during Spring 2026 along with selection information. Undergraduate resident students in Oakland are required to be on a traditional meal plan and 2026-2027 meal plan details will be announced in late Spring 2026.
What if I want to select All Gender Housing?
In order to view All Gender Housing during your selection date and time, you must have applied for it through your application on Housing Online in February.
Please note: if you are in an All Gender roommate group, all members of your roommate group will need to have selected “I prefer All Gender Housing” to All Gender Housing on the application in order to select an All Gender room.
Can I receive a medical accommodation?
Any medical accommodation must first be reviewed by the housing accommodation team. Please review the information on how to start that process here.
Additionally you will need to select “Yes” to the housing accommodation question on your housing applications prior to the application deadline in order to qualify for pre-selection.
Can I cancel my housing?
Undergraduates who enter as first-year students through fall admission to Boston, Oakland, and NUin are required to live in university housing unless approved for a residency waiver.
If you are taking an official separation from the university or participating in a co-op or study abroad that would take you outside of Boston, please refer to our cancellation policies and deadlines.
